How to Relieve Stress With Bikram Yoga

By an eHow Contributing Writer

Bikram yoga, founded by yoga champion Bikram Choudhury, is done in a hot room with temperatures between 95 to 105 degrees F. The purpose of the heat is to make the body more flexible while releasing toxins in your sweat. You'll do 26 poses that promote stretching and strengthening. Get out your yoga mat, drink lots of water and get started on your journey into Bikram yoga.

Instructions

1. Step 1

Purchase or borrow some Bikram yoga exercise videos to get started. You can practice the poses before you have to encounter the intense heat in your class. Perform some of the moves at home if possible. Whenever you feel a large amount of stress on your shoulders, try some Bikram yoga exercises.

2. Step 2

Make sure you practice your breathing. When you are doing Bikram yoga, you will learn how to breathe correctly. Breathing keeps you going in this exercise, and it will help you cope with the intense heat.

3. Step 3

Keep doing the Bikram yoga at home and attend a class every week, but follow at your own pace. The movement in Bikram yoga can help you get some stress out of the system as well as make you feel fit.

4. Step 4

Ask a friend to learn Bikram yoga with you. Start with the basics to get you going. Do what you can and learn as you go.

5. Step 5

Sign up for a few classes to get used to the basics of Bikram yoga. Most gyms and exercise studios offer a wide variety of yoga classes, and most likely will have a Bikram yoga class. Just make certain you have an instructor certified to teach this yoga discipline.

How to Practice Bikram Yoga at Home

By Dialogue Queen , eHow Contributing Writer

Yoga is one of the most popular exercise routines in the world. It helps clear the mind, stretch and tone the body. Bikram yoga is a specialized yoga done in a hot room with high levels of humidity, which help increase sweat and weight loss.

Instructions
Things You'll Need:

* Hot shower
* Humidifier
* Warm clothing
* Music

1. Step 1

Find a location in your home that you can isolate heat and humidity. For most people, a bathroom works well.

2. Step 2

Turn the shower on hot and let the room begin to steam and heat up. If you have a humidifier turn it on as well. The room should become very hot and humid. Another option to increase the temperature is to turn on the heater. This though is up to you as it will heat up the entire home unless you have specialized heating.

3. Step 3

Dress in warm clothing to increase the heat intake of your body. Long sleeves and socks are recommended.

4. Step 4

Turn on some soothing music. Begin the Bikram yoga routine as learned in classes or DVDs. If you have a portable DVD player you can place that in the room and follow it.

5. Step 5

Relax at the end of your yoga workout by laying or sitting down and breathing in the hot, moist air.
